A two-metre relief wall sculpture hand-cast in Bath Stone Jesmonite, its surface drawn with a scattered composition of feathered fans, splintered lines and falling fragments the flight and fall of Icarus, carried from a graphite drawing into low relief.
Icarus was originally developed for a private residence at Kensington Palace Terrace Gardens in London, where it hangs proud of the wall with LED lighting concealed behind it. The incised lines catch a raking glow at night and settle back into pure texture by day.
Each panel is cast to order in the Boldstone studio in Bath. The 15 mm tray-cast face uses Jesmonite AC730, an acrylic-modified gypsum composite, creating the matt, finely granular surface and cool depth of quarried stone at a fraction of its weight. A stainless-steel French-cleat framework, powder-coated white to RAL 9010, is set into the back. It carries the piece invisibly, holds it clear of the wall and can be specified to house LED backlighting.
Panel: 200 × 100 × 5 cm. Framework: 186 × 86 × 6.5 cm in 4 mm stainless steel. Approximate weight: 80 kg. Made to order in England with an estimated production time of 6-8 weeks.
Suitable for residential and commercial interiors. Companion plain panels in varying sizes can extend the composition across a wall; custom sizes and finishes are available by consultation.
